Tenant Assistance Program (TAP)
Purpose:
The Province of Ontario has provided a limited one time grant to establish a Tenant Assistance Program (TAP). A TAP loan is available to assist households maintain their housing when faced with the possibility of eviction because of arrears. The Social housing division is administered with the family counseling center of Cornwall and united counties.
Program:
The cheque is paid directly to the landlord for the arrears. A one-time loan is expected however, it can be reconsidered once the previous loan has been repaid.
Maximum of two months rent payment, up to a maximum of$1,100.00, towards arrears.
Must have the ability to repay the loan portion (75% of total) over term arranged with credit counsellor.
Eligibility:
Applicants must reside within the city of Cornwall or the united countries of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry.
Must be of low income.
Priority is given to families.
The threat of eviction must be due strictly to arrears.
The housing unit must be well maintained, safe and affordable.
Verification Procedures:
Contact with landlord, copy of eviction or other documentation that is applicable. Documentation of income and expenses. Client must sign consent to release information.

Procedure of application:
Complete a written application form from family counseling center. Bring personal ID, financial info, description of housing and landlord contact info and release for info.
Time process application: About one week
Rent bank loans are provided for: Anyone but with priority for families.

Maximum loan provided: Maximum 2 months rent, up to a maximum of $1100 towards arrears.
Collect repayments:Go to family counseling center and payment accepted in cash or cheque.
