Service description

The Rent Bank Program is administered by Grey County Housing.
The purpose of the rent bank is to assist low-income tenants living in Grey County with short-term rental arrears so they can stay in their homes.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must currently reside in Grey County
  • Must not have received any money from the County of Grey, Rent Bank Program in the last two years.
  • Applicants must explore all social and legal avenues before applying to determine if the arrears problem can be solved or if there are legal avenues they can pursue.
  • Applicants must have a stable tenant history.
  • Applicants must agree to a repayment plan prior to being accepted for County of Grey, Rent Bank assistance.
  • Applicants must be living in accommodations which are affordable under normal circumstances, for their income.

Application procedure:

  • Applications are mailed out or can be picked up at the Grey County Housing office. There is an initial screening at first contact to ensure applicants meet the basic eligibility criteria
  • An interview is conducted with the applicant and a brief phone interview is conducted with the landlord.
  • Rent Bank application is approved or denied within 7 days and both applicant and landlord are advised of the decision

Maximum loan provided: Program assistance is considered an interest free loan and the rent assistance may only cover two months' rent arrears to a maximum of $1,500.00
Accepting Applications from: Rent Bank loans are only available to renters. Tenants receiving geared-to-income rental assistance are not eligible.
Repayments: Approved applicants can make payments by cheque, cash or money order to our finance department.
