Service description

The Hastings County Rent Bank provides services to anyone residing in Hastings County,

Anyone NOT in receipt of Ontario Works (OW) or Ontario Disability Service Plan (ODSP) can apply at Ontario Works to receive funds from the rent bank.

People may telephone 1-66-414-0300 or can apply in person at the local Ontario Works office.

Eligibility Review Officers will process rent bank applications. the application of 100% Municipal Funds. A separate budget worksheet is used to determine eligibility.

Eligibility criteria:

1. no more than two months in arrears
   
2. can only be accessed once in a two year period
   
3. this will be a benefit; no reimbursement is expected
   
4. anyone is eligible, except OW/ODSP clients
   
5. only tenants will be eligible
   
6. current month’s rent and previous month’s rent can be paid
   
7. statement required from landlord stating that client is in arrears
   
8. follow 100% Municipal procedures and complete new budget worksheet
   
9. client is to contact the IAC (Intake Access Centre), be screened, and then scheduled in for appointment
   
10. verification of income and rental arrears is required
    
11. manual cheque can be produced
    
12. payment will be made directly to landlord
    
13. statistical data will be collected monthly
    
14. client is responsible for paying the indicated amount under the budget sheet
    
15. homeowners are not eligible to receive rent bank funds
    
16. first and last month’s rent cannot be funded by this program
