Service Description: The Salvation Army London Centre of Hope is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty, homlessness, addiction and other social problems by delivering programs that provide solutions-solutions that will reinvest a person's potential back into the fabric of our community.

The Salvation Army works together with other social service agencies, hospitals, churches and organizations across the city of London in an effort to provide well-rounded support to as many people as possible.

Rent Bank

A one time interest free loan, up to $1300 to assist tenants to maintain their housing and avoid eviction. Applicants must have a stable income source which is not Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program and meet income eligibility criteria. Applicants must be in the process of eviction (in reciept of an N4 or L1) and their housing must be sustainable. Applicants are not eligible if they are homeowners. All loans are repaid through a repayment schedule negotiated upon the approval of the loan. All money repaid to the rent bank is used to assist other families in need.

THAW

The Heat and Warmth Program provides emergency financial relief to assist individuals and families pay utility arrears and avoid disconnection of service. THAW assistance is available to households once every 2 years. Applicants must meet income criteria, have recieved a final or disconnection notice from the utility, paid at least $50 towards the utility in the past 4 months and be the person named on the bill.

Application Process

Applications for both programs are completed by appointment only. Evening and weekend appointments are available.

THAW applications are completed at satellite sites throughout the City of London. Applicants can contact our information line, 661-0343 ext 300 for locations and contact information.
