Service Description: The Salvation Army London Centre of Hope is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty, homelessness, addiction and other social problems by delivering programs that provide solutions that will reinvest a person's potential back into the fabric of our community.

The Salvation Army works together with other social service agencies, hospitals, churches and organizations across the city of London in an effort to provide well-rounded support to as many people as possible.

Rent Bank

The Rent Bank provides an interest-free loan to assist tenants to maintain safe and affordable housing while avoiding eviction. Applicants must meet income criteria and have an ongoing source of income which is not Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program; must be in the process of eviction (in receipt of an N4 or L1) and the housing must be sustainable and protected under the Residential Tenancy Act.

Applications are completed by appointment only. Please call the Housing Support Services information line at 519-661-0343 ext.300.

Applicants are not eligible if they are homeowners. All loans are repaid through a repayment schedule negotiated upon the approval of the loan. All money repaid to the rent bank is used to assist other families in need.

THAW

The Heat And Warmth Program provides emergency financial relief to cover the cost of utility bill arrears in order to avoid disconnection of service. THAW funding is available to London area households once every 2 years. Applicants must meet income criteria, have received a final disconnection notice, have paid at least $50 in the past 4 months towards the utility and be the person named on the bill. The program starts January 4, 2010 and operates until funding is exhausted.

Application Process

Applications for both programs are completed by appointment only. Evening and weekend appointments are available.
THAW applications are completed at satellite sites throughout the City of London. Applicants can contact our information line, 519-661-0343 ext. 300 for locations and contact information.
