Description of Services: Social Services Administration Board (Social Housing, Ontario Works, Land Ambulance, Child Care)
Hours of operation: 8:00 to 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday, closed from 12:00 to 1:00 pm
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be residents of the Rainy River District, sixteen (16) years of age or older, Canadian Citizens, landed immigrant or have refugee claimant status with no outstanding deportation, departure or exclusion order.
- Applicants must have no more than two months arrears to a maximum of $1,000.00 and demonstrate that the eviction is not for reasons other than arrears.
- Applicants must show proof of eviction proceedings and indicate their intention to remain in their current accommodation for a further twelve (12) month period.
- They must demonstrate that the financial crisis is temporary and it can be addressed through rent assistance and that their crisis is not the result of chronic financial mismanagement. Other sources of income must be exhausted.
- The Landlord must agree in writing to stop eviction and funds must be paid to the Landlord directly.
- Housing must be sustainable and habitable.
- Applicants must not be in receipt of assistance from OW or ODSP; OW and ODSP applicants will only be considered in exceptional circumstances and these cases will be reviewed and determined jointly by the OW and Social Housing Managers. RGI applicants are not eligible unless the arrears of rent were due to a serious medical condition suffered by one of the immediate family members, or in extraordinary circumstances beyond the applicant's control.
